I don't know what to do, the fuel consumption in my car is very very high. 73km with a little more than a quarter tank. I have th M20 with 4A1 carb. What can I do to solve this without changing the car or anything like it? It as expensive as taking a cab!
Thanks,
Konrad. |

Check the carb adjustment, choke operation.
Check timing adjustment.
Do you have the access to CO mashine and timing light?

My fuel consumption is higher than that. I probably (probably, because my odo/trip meter is not working) get about 160-180 km on a full tank. Probably due mainly to my heavy right foot. Also, 90%+ of my driving is in town. With the AC on as well.
Also have a small crack in my fuel tank. That does not help. |

I get 450km with a full tank with mixed city traffic, highway crusing (4000rpm @ 120km/h in 4th gear) and lively driving (occasional redline).
If I drive careful and economical, I can get 550-600km with a full tank (but that ain't fun any more ).
So if your 320/6 can't make 400km on a full tank, it's time to check things!
I had worse fuel economy as well before I rebuilt my carb and set my timing. So doing a carb overhaul should help you a great deal.. The parts you need cost less than a full tank of gas. The following are good reads:

Well I rebuilt the carb and had it adjusted, it still is a gas guzzler!
Your Kjet may need adjustment, perhaps it has leaks of some sort also? |
