Unlike most of the problems hazard switches on our cars normally have like blowing fuses or suddenly popping out, my switch stands out of the crowd.

Earlier this morning I had a problem with the switch, it wasn't working so I decided to "repair" it I pluged it in and it started smoking and smelling awful so I took it apart to find out the spring had melted because of the short, I reassembeled it with a new spring and tried it.

Now when I press the switch it will pop out immediately and will Illuminate constantly, The emergency lights won't light up and the switch's red light stays on continously.

Turn lamps work ok and the fuses are ok.

Any ideas?

Konrad.

Try another switch, but you might have also killed the relay now. Its in the steering column

I believe it's the same relay as the turn lamps, and it does work ok....I don't have any switches and they are none available on the market.

I will probably be buying a new one real soon, you can have mine then if I do. Mine popped out, so I pulled the cover up and snapped it back in for now.

Well if it's not a problem to you I would be more than glad to take that switch away from you . Please tell me how much would it cost to ship to CR.

You might also consider keeping the switch unplugged. Similar thing happened to me (as in *poof* - smoke). All the hazard and signal functions were messed up and, when everything was off (key out, lights and switch off) it mnged to drain my bttery in about 24 hours.

The problem is, if I unplug the switch there are n turn signals.

I have a problem with the hazard swich either. When I turn in the hazard lights, they don't work but the bigger problem is that the digital clock stop working too.
An interesting issue is that the fuse is OK and after I stop the engine and turn it back on, the digital clock start working again.....I don't undestand what could be the problem....

1-Remove the cover above the pedals.
2-Remove the steering column cover, it's held by three screws.
3-The relay is located on theuper right hand side.
4-Reftting reversal of removal.

Hope it helps

Hey Konrad, isn't your clock in the tachometer on an '81? That's where my clock resides.

Sure it's on the tach, i got one that works at least partially since it wont keep the correct time....probably the lead wire that works when the car is off to keep the power going is faulty.

Not a big deal at least I don't have the blank screen PPL always ask if its some sort of weird fuel consumption meter hehe.

PS: F.A.O g323 no problem mate.

In a pinch the easy fix for a hazard switch that no longer engages is 1)Unscrew(ccw) the red plastic button portion of the hazard switch all the way off. 2) Insert a US nickel flatly against remaining portion of switch. 3)depress switch by applying pressure to nickel. 4) slightly move nickel to right or left which will magically fix your rougue hazard switch back into place. To use the hazard simply apply left or right pressure to nickel -it will pop out and hazard will enact. This fix will work forever an save you 50 bucks for a new one -AND YOU WON'T FIND A GOOD HAZARD SWITCH AT THE JUNKYARD! THEYRE ALL BAD.

I have found that the lazy very easy fix is to push the button in and insert by hand a small screw between the button and the side. It holds button in even on bumpy roads. Remove screw by hand (no tools needed) for hazard use.
