You have a very nice car.

I am wondering about a couple of the mods you have listed:
-Alpina copy lower chassis tie bar
---Is this some type of fron to rear subframe connector?
-Dinan adjustable subframe
---What does this provide?
Pictures of both on the car would be great to see.
Do you know how to tell if a steering rack is:
-original Motorsport quick ratio steering rack
---Do you know the change in ratio?

I'm thinking about some things that might be left to do to my car and these sound like worth while efforts.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks!

Alpina made a lower chassis 'tie bar' back in the day. David Lumbra [www.2002restorations.com] makes an identical copy. This is a steel bar which ties each side of the lower front of the chassis together - by mounting at the front anti-sway locations. I can post a pic...

The adjustable rear subframe [as sold by Dinan and others] allows for relatively easy camber correction on lowered cars. This is important if the car is lowered at all, as lowering adds too much negative camber which hurts tire life and traction. I can post a pic of this too...

Lastly, the BMW Motorsport quick ratio rack: if you can get your hands on one, it will be the most gratifying mod this side of 300hp! The ratio change is huge: from 4.1 turns lock-to-lock to 2.5 turns. Big fun. I don't have part numbers for each, but its like looking at a diff: push tie rods from one end to the other while counting input shaft turns. Jason, a frequent contributor here, sells exact copy steering gear kits, which can be installed in your existing rack. Look him up! Original quick racks are rare.

Hey,

I had Avenue Autoworks on W 11th do the paint. They came recommended by David & Evan Lumbra. We only did the rear 1/2 of the car, but there was plenty of bodywork. I think we spent $1600. I'll do the front when I do my 2.7 motor.

Any chance you can send pix from Saturday to blair@rolfprima.com?

Thanks,
Blair
