If you are going to cross the line into bad taste you might as well go all the way. Betcha any well driven, decently prepped and stroked 323 could give this car a run on a twisty technical track.
Would be fun to drive ....... once. |

Can you say front heavy? God I thought the M30 was a challenge to get balanced, at least he could have gone with an aluminium block.
Not to mention he killed the asthetics.
Good burnout competion car though if you are into that sort of thing. |

Ok everyone... Mister High and Mighty's. Who here is quicker in a straight line that this car? Ugly... yes. Smoke everyone here in a straight line.... you bet. Sorry boys, everyone's comment is true, but all you'll ever see of this car on a drag strip is it's tail lights. |

I don't know, Nic. There's that 9.50 second turbo 323i. Just because it's got that monster V8 in there doesn't mean that it will blow everything else away. I will be damned fast in the straight line though, it would just go off the track at the first turn!! |

God love an inline six, but I have to admit that the suppressed Appalachian American part of me thinks this car is at least a little cool. Not neccesarily my kind of thing, but you have to admit that there is nothing like a small block chevy for cheap, reliable power. As for being purists, if we were all 'Purists' then most of us would be driving 8 valve k-jet 1.8 liters with 13x5.5 wheels and tall, soft suspensions with Boge shocks. It's not a matter of being Pure, just a matter of how Impure you care to be. I wouldn't do this in an e21, I'm just not saying it hasn't crossed my mind. But if I had an extra 635csi laying around........

Yeah, it is a little overkill and not for me. But cool and fun enough to make me laugh just hearing it drive by - yeah. Would I do it? No. Heh heh. Would love to take it to a cruise night somewhere, though. Wonder what it has for a trans and rear end... Needs nitrous. |

Betcha I can give him a run for his money on my new 335, at least on the 1/8 mile, but drag racing is pointless anyway IMO. |

Amen!
One of my coworkers has a very fast drag car...I just never understood it. Maybe if I did a run or two I would but I'd still rather be driving a bimmer through some nice hilly turns...

I feel like alloy block chevy v8 into e12/e28 is the ideal...but a three series is just too small for this!
I know a guy that works at a local high-performance shop with a very built chevy and a six speed in an older z-car. He goes to the track and tortures it all day long and has a great time. He's a handling guy more than anything so he went to great lengths to make that little car well balanced.

Z cars with small blocks were called Scarabs. It was a fairly common conversion years ago. Another nice conversion is the Renegade kit for the Porsche 914. That one is a hoot. |

Knew a guy with a Chevy 350 powered 914 - the car was a rocket, but the 350 was a tight fit. I've always thought that a later model supercharged GM 3.8 V6 would be a great option for a hot rod 914 -the smaller enging should room for a/c, and with a bit of work could probably even be made to sound somewhat like a 914/6. |

Taking my 2500 lb LS1 e12 530i to Lime Rock Park on the 21st of April. Can't wait to blow by some 50K plus cars and see the look on their faces.
Childish but fun. |

Sure it is a "low tech" push rod motor but there is nothing out there that can touch it for light weight, low cost pure raw power.
The quote from that page puts this comment to rest,

I'm thinking about buying a say 79-84 camaro and I'm going to throw in a M10 then I will have the best of both worlds. But then I spoke to god (he was drunk like me) and he said straight 6'S are the best balanced motor, so i'm going to do what he says. I hope I'm not a sinner |

Here's a four cylinder BMW that should beat it :

8.58 seconds in the 1/4 mile
I'm not a drag racing fan either, but this is a well engineered car.
Here's their site:
