It increases horsepower by 300%. LOL. My 78 has it, its the lever to adjust the seat foward/backwards.

HAHA! I know it was for horsepower!

Now....seriously.....Looks like it was only on really old models since my car has the lever below the seat on the right side

Folks,
this is a pre facelift model (pre '79) having a facelift dash and instrument cluster installed.

look at the old style of seats (vinyl on top)
- and of course old seat adjustment mechanism,
old style carpet, old style door stop, old style
shifter boot, ...

Yes. Horst its and old car, about 77, or 78 that had that lever. Also the car should have straight frame rails for the seats. On later models they went bigger on the inside parts for the seat belts.

Is my medication wearing off or does the speedo have numbers that go all the way around?

What hill/cliff do you drive down/off to get up the 300km/h in a e21.

ha ha....

I apparently have hit ~110mph in my 320is.... yes the m10 (stock but w/ mildly lowered/sport suspension). It was a long flat straight shot (I-5 stretch between Northern and Southern CA). There was actually a purpose to the madness... to flag down some friggin moron in a subaru flying down w/ his trunk open. How can you drive that long and that fast w/o knowing your trunk is flapping around behind you? Scary. So my budy and I trapped him until he finally looked and pulled over. Had to use my flashlight, too. Idiot.

Oh.. and the car actually felt reasonably stable and smooth, too.

I actually reached 200+ downhill on 5th gear. Long stretch of road. Speedo read 220 kph but again...it was down hill hehe.

My e21 lets me know at about 145kph that we are no longer friends -cant imagine even 200kph in a e21!!! -ofcourse I have a 82 US model though. she is smooth as silk between 80 and 135 kph. Unfortunately your driver side lever is not visible from the passenger seat. Ladies love the gadgets!

It actually wasn't much of a joyride, the vibration on the steering wheel started decreasing at around 150kph . And yes i wont do that again haha.

I've just come to accept that my car is a 25 year old great handling, extra realiable, anti-performance car!! Although this nevers stops my temptation of looking at performance upgrades! -e21-best car I ever owned by a long shot!! And its a very simple car -a true shade tree mechanics dream if you enjoy giving constant TLC.

I once travelled about 50km at 150km/h in the 320/6 (in 4th gear ). The car wasn't even breaking a sweat.

I can't wait to have the racer on the road though... It cruises happily at 180km/h, and pushes 210km/h without hesitation (in 4th gear also, I was running low on 5spd gearboxes hehe ). But of course, the 2.7 has enough grunt to pull those speeds.

Same here Tri. A group of us driving back from the BMW CCA O'Fest last year ran for 2.5 hours at 85 mph (137 KPH). I was in the Baur with a 4 speed. The ambient temp was 80F and the Baur ran fine. My ears rang for a while from the wind and engine noise.

lol... yup but on the motor way in the UK I regularly sat on 85mph in the e30 316... admittedly it was a 5 speed, but it handled fine, and could have pushed further.

Mind you, in my brother inlaw's e39 we could sit on 110mph all day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL

The E30's 5th gear has the same ratio as the E21's 4th, that is 1:1. At least that was what I had on the E30 318i.

That lever was in my 78(11/77 build date) but my 79 pre face lift did not have the lever. so it appears to me they changed the seats in early 79, and it's not necessarily related to the facelift.

I know the post's moved a bit since the photo, but I think my 323i has that lever as well, but only on the passenger side. It seems to release the forward/backward movement of that seat.

But I'm actually asking about those seats

I have the same ones but upholstered in fabric. Are they the stock recaro's that came with the 323i?

The seats in the picture are not Recaros. They are the standard seats.

Wow my old post resurrected nice .

As realcrouton said they are standard seats and came both in "leather"(vynil) and fabric.

I have no problem with you bumping the thread.

These are Recaros:

Correct,Recaro's have the bolsters all the way round the back rest,E30 BMW sports seats sometimes called Recaros only have the side bolsters.
