I finally got my custom stub axles and got back to work. All the fabrication and mechanicals are done. Now it's 1) paint& seam seal the engine bay, interior and undercarriage with Por-15 2) run brake/gas lines 3) wiring 4)paint outside.
Probably another 2 months of weekends.

Final ride height will be 3" lower, suspension settings are what I had on the M30 e21. I want to wait until I put the doors, fluilds and doodads in before I adjust.

Lowest point on the car is the rear sway bar. See the differential vents? Perfect.

Can't wait to jump in and drive!

Now that's what I mean by putting the engine low and back!!!

M3 Euro diff mount and driveshaft (balanced to 10K rpm)Two new gas tanks and new EVAP lines, fuel line and seals. Walbro 255lph in tank pump.

Audi TT aluminium calipers, e30 drilled slotted rotors.

Custom chromemolly half shafts, 930 CVs with chromemolly race cages

Custom heat treated chromemolly stub axles

Chromemolly race cages on left, OEM 930 on right.

Who built the shafts and stub axles? Is that a Korman fiberglass hood?

Love the project... wish I had the $$ for fun stuff like that.

Hi Ken, The half shafts and stubs were done by Summers Brothers in Calif. Stubs were $500 a pair and the axles were $114 a pair.
Yep Korman fiberglas hood and trunk. Also using Percy Speedglass for the side windows.
Hear you about the money but I justify it every time I look at new car prices or watch the classic/exotic/custom car auctions. It will still be well under $10k when done, less than a used e30 or e36 M3.

Hi, what sort of power do you think the standard stub shafts and rear hubs take.
I really love your car, can't wait to see and hear it go. You must post a sound clip when your done. I can't wait.

3" lower? From the pictures that looks like a tight fit for those wheels and tires!

Does the hood bolt up like a stock one or will it have hood pin set up.

Pete it looks great.

I will have to get my car together and hang out with you. I want to see if I can fit wildwoods on the front of my car as well.

The Korman fiberglass hood is a pin on only without a lot of modification. They are very thin and light-floppy even.

I have one for my '82 that is currently recovering from a crash last spring. They tell you about 5 times when you order one that it's "race quality" not "street quality". The mold is not great and they don't take much care when trimming it after removing it from the mold. Mine will take significant work to get it even acceptable for anything other than a demolition derby car-I am pretty disapointed... but I'll make it work. I IS quite light and that's good.

Yep Ken, definetly "race" quality, but with a little surfacing and build up on the edges they come up pretty nice. I lost one to an accident as well but rebuilt it for the e12 and it promptly got re-smashed.
Wheels fit under the fenders (7", et27 with 10mm spacers and 225-50 16s). There is only about a mm between the trailing arms and the tires and a mm between the lower front ball joint and the tire. Fronts I may have have to massage the lip a little for heavy G turns.
The Wilwoods fit under 15" but it was too close for my comfort.
The OEM stubs and CVs are good for about 300HP based on my reasearch. Thety do make a stronger CV with the same demensions as the OEM but they are very hard to find. I think they were used on the Ford Escort RS.
Hopefully the car won't be too loud. I used Flowmaster "Hushpower" mufflers which are good up to 400hp motors. Might be a little restrictive as that's what I have HP wise but I think I can sacrifice a few HP.
Yeah I can't wait either. I sit in the car at night and make engine noises

Excellent, I do the same and my engine runs.
I can't wait to see it, I am trying to convince the wife to have a holiday in NYC next year so I can come and see It.

The Hushpower mufflers are a neat design and pretty compact. I have not heard a set yet and I'm really curious as to how they sound-not many of them on cars around here...

Redmist,
I'm needing some rear hubs like yours, to handle some serious power. Can you tell me exactly what I need or better still how much you would make me a set for. A bit cheeky I know but its worth a go.
Cheers
James

Hi Dave look up a couple of posts. Summers Bros made them. WAAAAAAy beyond my capabilities.
Can't wait to finish the damn thing. My son is taking my daily driver so I need to finish my e30 project first. Building up the engine now, should be another month before I get back to the V8.
