There is a rear sway bar from an 83 320is available on ebay, I want a rear sway bar for my 2.0 m10 to 2.7 m20 project. Is this the best sway bar for my needs, or is there a better, bigger one that would perhaps be more appropriately mated to a 6 cyl car? Will this one be big enough I guess is my question.

Opinions please.

Thanks!

Dave

It's the same diameter that Alpina used, only it's not adjustable. By far my favorite bars are the Suspension Techniques bars, 25mm and 19mm. They are available from VAC motorsports.

Thanks for the tip Dennis. I went to VAC's site, their kit looks really nice, but it's more than I think I want to spend. I guess my real question is; will I need anything bigger than the 320is rear sway bar if all I'm going to do is spirited street driving, no track?

Yes. You need an adjustable bar to accomadate changes you have to the other suspension components. The "IS" bar IMO is to soft as well.

Unfortunate but true.

Thanks Redmist. So if I want to use high performance springs and shocks and lower the car I'm going to need a more sophisticated front and rear sway bar set up. Have you guys seen any used set ups of this type on ebay, or should I just jump off my wallet for the real thing?

Thanks!

Dave-
Buy the S/T bars, they are an ideal street setup. For the track, an even more aggresive setup would be beneficial. I've had e21's with both stock bars and S/T bars with lowered suspensions, and the bigger bars are a huge improvement. I need to get a set myself for my current car.

you could always try to get lucky at the 'yards and find a car junked w/ them on (most likely you'll just find the 'is' bar, not an aftermarket). Also, have you already gotten a front strut bar/tower? this too gives noticable improvement in drive feel... but for much less. This could be a middle ground until you gather up the funds or strike gold on ebay or CL.

This is one of those "while I'm at it..." things again. The project started with an engine swap and has turned in to a complete ground up restoration. I'd like to do it right the first time. It will be months before I am at the stage where I am putting the body back on the sub-frames, so I guess I have some time to hunt up some good suspension components. I have even considered buying a whole package from Hartge or Alpina...too many options!

If any one on here has anything they'd like to unload suspension wise I'd be interested.

Thanks for the help on this guys.

I've got a set of H&R springs that I just removed for a set of Alpinas... I don't know about the condition so I'd let you have them for $20 plus shipping. If they're no good I'd even send you your $20 back... I just don't know how to test them other than putting them in a car. I don't know how old they are but the paint on them is in great condition... lemme know.

I also saw a set of ST swaybars on ebay but did not bid at the time... Now I want a set too. I think they went for about $200... still pricey.
