I finally got my donar 323i yesterday and ive already started removing stuff to take out the engine, and im just wondering if i take out the fuel distributor, airflow meter, and airbox all that stuff with the motor or do i remove these parts seperatly before taking the motor out???

the picture below shows 4 hours work i did today, but i throughly enjoyed working on it as its my first time swapping engine

its better if you remove the fuel distributor, airbox etc as a lump fromn the engine as it makes loads of space to get at engine mounts etc and its very difficult to take the engine out with the distributor as there not really enough space.

Phil is right. Remove as much as possible from the engine to facilitate it's removal.

definatly clean new engine before installing, give it a good steam clean it will come up nice,

question, why didnt you take the box out with it in one lump, its easier.

reason is too why i didnt tak out the box is because

a)our roof downstairs isnt high enough and were using a pulley

b)i only got my auto license so i cant use the 5 speed gearbox yet (next year ill do the auto to manual conversion)

u say steam cleaning? how do u do that?
