Hi all,
I currently drive and the bulk of my knowledge is 2002/m10 based. I swapped an M20 from a 325i into my 2002. I am using the flywheel from an 82 323 along with the 323 5 speed overdrive gearbox. I installed a 325 clutch/pressure plate and what I believed to be a 323 throw out bearing. Problem is it appears that the clutch doesn't fully disengage (ie slight tugging that really doesn't move the car but you can feel it) and the trans really grinds putting the car into reverse (other gears are fine). I am wondering if I have put together the wrong collection of parts or if somethingelse is wrong. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Chuck

wrong release bearing. There are two that I know of on cars of that era- 21 51 7 521 471 and 21 51 1 204 525. The second number is the one you need. The first number fits all US bimmers in the eighties except a select few 633i and 533i cars..and greymarket 323i's.

If you can't find one let me know!

Oh and by the way, you're a jerk. Some poor E21 nerd could be putting that lovely trans to good use while your 2002 could have a nice m10 turbo in it! (I kid, of course)

Thanks for the reply. I "think" that is the TOB that I put in. I can't find my notes with part numbers so that probably means pulling the thing apart again. If I do have the correct TOB installed any other thoughts on what it could be. I've pressure bled the clutch slave several times with no real improvement. Oh well, I needed another winter project. And the jerk comment...yeah but you cannot believe how this car performs with just the stock "out of the box" M20...170hp vs 96hp makes a huge difference. Realatively straight forward swap. Maybe will work towards a turbo M20 at some point in the future but for now I am very satisfied.

Like the 02 a lot, you've invested some time in that and it shows!
