What is the best spark plug for a 1982 323i? I am using WR8DC right now and I am wondering if i would benifit from using WR7DC as it is somewhat cold right now. Or is there some other plug that would be better?

im using NGK BP5ES which are the standard plugs for my 323i.... works great

i used slighty hotter plugs which were the NGK BP4ES for my old engine which kept fouling up BP5ES spark plugs

I always have the best luck with W9DC's on M10/M20/M30's

I've seen a lot of bad results with platinum plugs in older bimmer engines. It's zgr5a, bosch silbers or bosch supers in all my old bimmers.

ZGR5A is a normal plug- either silver or copper, I don't recall which. It works great and is often cheaper than the factory Bosch plug.

Sources then,
BMW_M_320i - W9DC - Bosch
Arnz - BP5ES - NGK
ImaRadiostar - ZGR5A - NGK
Haynes for e21 six cil, N10Y - Champion
Bav Auto - WR8DC - Bosch

I would like to get Bosch, in all reality, how much difference does it make?

Also what does the "heat range" mean, for what reasons would I want a higher heat range, or lower?

thanks!

ive used bosch before and i had a good run with them so their not bad plugs. really just upto ur preference to which brand u want, they all pretty much perform the same.

the link below explains a bit about the heat range

When I was wrenching my shop used the Bosch W9DC and NEVER had any problems with them.

Platinums are horrible for E21s!!! -that did a number on my '82!!! -I've never met a single professional mech that thought a hot plug would improve a old E21 -only foul it up. I stick with Bosch -no problems.. ever, but spark plugs are so good now-a-days you can't go wrong with any brand name that has proper OEM dimension and temperature bias.

Except Champions, which I wouldn't even run in my lawn mower!

funny you mention Champion -they have cornered the market on 2 stroke lawn maintenance products -I guess that should be a red flag! I now retract my statement encompassing "all" spark plugs -there is something about champion I don't like sort of like Coke versus RC and pepsi. I've always felt the boys at coke just know something that rc and pepsi never will..ofcourse Im from georgia though...
