So my car is burning oil, it passes smog, idles well, pings a little but had a valve adjustment this summer. Valve guides? what could it be, what can i ask my mechanic to do for a reasonable price?

Most likely to be perished valve stem oil seals.
cheap to do if you know what you're doing.

I don't really know what I'm doing inside an engine, would it be quick for a mechanic to do? thus cheap? . Or is it possible to do with out also adjusting the valves?

When i say cheap it involves getting a head gasket set £30-£50 and a set of head bolts if your worried about re-using the old ones, thats it if you are doing the work yourself.

If you Get a mechanic to do it for you add another £250.00 minimum.
The clyinder head needs to be removed and completely stripped down to change the valve seals.

Having changing head gasket, valve seals etc, then you'd also wanting to change the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, oil seals unless you have just replaced those recently...
