According to the book, a 323 has a final drive of 3.45:1. However, I may stand corrected
It should be stamped on an alu tag on the diff cover, it will either be 3.91,3.64 or 3.45:1.
The torque converter ratio for the 323 is 1-2.06:1 |

Same diff ratio manual or auto on the 323i. Some of the 4 cyl cars had different ratios for the autobox to make up for lack of an overdrive gear, i.e. 318i's ('80 up 320i in the US) had a 3.64 gear in the auto instead of a 3.91. This keeps the revs down at high speeds.

I found an LSD in an automatic 323i that had a 3.64:1 ratio. Whether this was stock I couldn't tell you, but I would say that it was. Who'd worry about putting an LSD in an automatic?!? |
