I haven't ever seen them and I've had quite a few 240's on my lift. Has anyone actually seen/held one in their hand?
It may be splitting hairs since the weight difference is minimal (less than two pounds difference between 323i and 240 turbo calipers including pads) but I'm still willing to give it a go. If I can find them in aluminum they should weigh the same as 323i stuff.

I havent seen the aluminum ones, just heard about them. I looked all over the Advance Auto Parts website and all of the ones I saw appeared to be the normal cast ones everyone has, and all have a shipping weight of 9lbs, even though they may just list one shipping weight. The weight difference between the two may only be noticed on the track though, it should be noticable though, since it does reduced the unsprung weight, every little bit helps! |

The difference between the two is only about 1.5 lbs by my measurements- that much variation is very minimal compared to tire weights from size to size and brand to brand.
I'm trying to see what I can achieve with stock rotors since I'd like to have some 13x7 "track day" wheels with ra1's or v700's. It's funny how I can get race tires to fit a wide 13 inch wheel but I can't get decent street tires. I'm going to use my 15's as street wheels and probably revolution 14x7 or ATS classic 13x7 (or maybe some diamond wheels) as my "race" wheels. I could always use hi-temp fluid and race compound pads like the Hawk race pads but the Volvo calipers may give the ability to use cheaper pads that are easier to find.

They are off the 240 turbo models and are pretty hard to find. I've seen pics but no turbos have shown at the pic-a-part yet...

I've pulled a lot of CIS parts off of turbo volvos and not seen the aluminum ones- guess I'll have to keep looking.

I've got a pair of the alloy Alfa calipers put away as well - never seen alloy calipers on Volvo 240's. The pair of Alfa calipers I have came off an early '80's Alfa V6 sedan @ Pick & Pull, but I don't remember the specific year and model |

Definately interested in the Alfa calipers- would you mind weighing one of them for me so I can get an idea of what the difference is?
I have a bid on some other calipers on ebay so I'll have to wait till those are won/lost.
I will continue to keep my eyes open for these Volvo calipers. I still haven't heard anyone say they're had one in their hand!

I just got mine this afternoon. These are the run of the mill 9lb'ers (w/o pads). I was not able to come up with any Volvo alloy units. With pads the OEM 323 calipers are 9 3/8 so weightwise, it's a wash.
Can anyone tell me why the caliper is so far off center? It's a good 1/3" to the left side in this pic. I thought at first I got sent an ABS caliper but the PN shows these to be correct. |
