Ths is NOT a shroud, it is an aux fan, electrically driven. It is for cars with A/C, fitted on the forward of the car to cool the A/C codensor (?).
U can fit any of those found in the open market. Can wire up by temp or manual or both.
Good luck. |

so basically i need to hardwire the aircon fan, but shouldn't this be a last resort? The mechanic at the cooling place says he can't find anything else wrong with the car... |

hey there
On my car I run an e28 16 inch Bosch fan in that spot controlled by an aftermarket (daviscraig) thermoswitch. This is the only fan I run (no engine driven fan on the pre 79 build cars)... I picked it up from the wreckers for about $30.
The car never overheats, or even changes temperature on hot days (40C plus!) I can highly recomend this fan, (it pushes a lot more air than the daviscraig fan I had before) but it is noisy at full speed.
Good Luck |

Hey man, yea you need an aftermarket fan. I had the EXACT same problem i feeel. I changed everything in the cooling system.
What i did and it worked very well was to keep the engine driven fan, and I bought a 10inch pusherfan(in front of the radiator) and attached a adjustable thermostat to it which turned it on right before the midpoiint on my gauge.
Now with the 72degree thermostat and the fan my car never gets above the mid-point |

Dear friends
I think there is a bigga difference between an electric fan that replaces the engine driven fan and an aux fan.
I am puzzled to learn that the per 79 323i did NOT have an engine driven fan. |

Yup,
Its from Realoem. Just run a search using early model details, i.e., 1978 etc |
