Knowledgeable ones,
After two destroyed bottom ends on my M10 I have been persuaded to install oil temp and pressure gauges along with an oil cooler, baffled oil pan and other goodies.
This is terriffic, but what sort of readings should I expect to see on these new gauges on my highly over stressed engine.
Given that it is only just back on the road I haven't reved it in anger, but it does read about 70PSI at around 3,500 rpm and the temp (once warmed) seems to stabilise at about 70-80 degrees C.
At idle the pressure reads at about 35 PSI.
Anyone have any thoughts?? I would appreciate any input.
Thanks - Chris |

Exactly.
Both times a bearing shell has disintergrated following a hard right hand corner immediately followed by a tight left hander. Local gurus have attributed the failure to oil surge problems.
I should add that this is on the track!

Warmed up, those are normal pressures for a m10.
For the track you might want to install an Acusump presurized oil resivour. A two quart unit would give you several seconds of oil pressure if you loose suction with the pump temporairly.

Thanks Ken,
Yes, I really wanted to know what were acceptable parameters for pressure and temp. Thanks also for the advice re the acusump, but I am hoping that the windage tray and the super baffled oil pan with all the bells and whistles plus an additional two litres of oil will help to mitigate repetition of the problem.
