hey guys

recently ive been having a problem with the balance of my brakes. it seems that every time i brake the car wants to go to the right, thus sometimes under heavy braking i hav to compensate just to keep the car straight.

today i tried to fix the problem. ive bleed the brake fluid, changed over caliper, changed brake pads, bleed more fluid.

i think it just might be the time to change the brake master cyclinder. what do you guys reckon?

respectfully
Arno

So pistons moving freely and no binding , then? And since you bled, I'm assuming the hydraulics flowed to all corners? Is it possible front suspension is loose on the side it drags towards?

yeh the piston seems to be moving freely.
yes ive bled it at all four corners.
ill look tomorrow for loose suspension but i highly doubt there is

might i add to my original post that when it pulls to the right it only every happens under braking, when i get off the brakes the car goes straight again

if the pistons are not jammed, I would suspect the suspension next

Bush in control arm for anti roll bar, worn or loose in arm? can you hear a knock when braking?

nah theres no knocking in the suspension when i brake.......

the guys over on bimmerforums think that the rubber hose has swelled up thus slowing down the flow of brake fluid getting to the caliper.

ill try replacing the hoses tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.

Ah... that's a good idea. I forgot about that cuz I swapped mine to braided P

So if it pulls right, then it would be bubbling on the left, yeah? I'm just thinking out loud...

Look at the master cylinder and brake pedal- E21's had a service bulletin for the brake pedal rest position being too low and preventing the piston from returning to the rest position, causing the brakes to hang up. Often times this can lead to glazing and other problems with the brakes. I have experienced this on my E21...

Have you bled the brakes on both sides? Have you exercised the pistons in the calipers to make sure they move freely?

jamie

I doubt seriously that this is your problem but you might have a look at it anyway. When I bought my car my brakes were sticking on. I replaced the master cylinder and bled the brakes a bunch of times. I rebuilt the the calipers and nothing helped. I then had a look at the linkage connecting the pedal. Because the RHD models mount the MC at the front BMW uses that long linkage to attach to it. What I found is the bolt holding the long rod at the pivot point was tightened a little too much and when the bay would heat up it was enough expansion to interfere with the motion. I backed the bolt off 1/4 turn and problem solved.

Like I said, I don't think that's your problem but it wouldn't hurt to look. The bolt is under the coolant expansion tank.
