What type of rivits are used for holding down the VIN plate to the chassis? Mine were ratty old pop rivits and I know those weren't right.

Any ideas?

The rivits holding the vin plate on other 80's vintage BMW's I've had were of the rounded top variety. The ETK doesn't show a part number for them so it must have been one of those "whatever they had at the time" deals.

They are definately just pop rivets. The heads of mine came off and the vin fell out on to the driveway one day. Wondered wtf it was

definately not welded. A flimsy piece of alloy or tin like that wouldnt even be worth the effort.

Yes you have the VIN plate plus the chassis number is stamped acros the top on the inner wing.
