I couldn't figure out why I really don't like driving the 323. I was starting to think I'd wasted my time and money restoring a car that I really dislike driving and then it hit me; the steering is too darned slow. I'm spoiled with the M5 steering box in my 535 and the slow ratio of the 323 flat out stinks in comparison.
This is going to sound crazy but has anyone messed with a Pinto rack before? They are cheap, plentiful and appear that one could be made to fit. Hot rodders have been using Pinto racks for years and in fact many higher end "kit" cars currently use them.
Any input is welcome. |

Jason 323i has the quick ratio rack. I think its a 2.5 turns lock to lock. Standard is 4 turns. You might want to send him an IMS |

I have thought of this also but I think the Pinto rack body is wider which would cause weird steering because the tie rod pivots would not line up with the control arm pivot.
As stated earlier... only one way to find out...
