Member Post nr. 364 Melbourne, Australia 1982 Hennaröt 323i	There's no way to do it with a timing light. However, if you turn the engine to the mark that it should fire, you can then turn the distributor to where it's pointing at number 1 and that will get you close. You'll still be a few degrees retarded because of the mechanical and vacuum advance that come in to play when the engine is running.
