Where do germans post their used vehicles. Ebay.de seems limited.

I am highly considering bringing a z1 over.

I have been looking on ebay.de and they are never listed there.....neither are any genuine Hartge or Alpina cars.

Where can I look?

Too new to bring over. You'll have to use the "show" exemption. Anything over 25 years is fair game with minimal hassle. The Show exemption is a major PITA.

Yes, it is. I have researched it. The major setback isnt the conversion. It only takes the change of the exhaust to get it to comply as the driveline is basically a 325i. The major setback is that you can only drive it 2,500 miles per year.....at penalty of having the car crunched and destroyed if you violate it.

Still......if I could find a reasonably priced Hartge H35.....I would gladly fly over and get it over here.

you could probably pay someone to build you a car like an H35 for less than an actual H35 though...

jamie

I feel I am sort of doing that already with the Baur.

I have my lease expiring......and I am already over the miles. I need a daily driver.....and would like to park the lease instead of spending money on the miles...spend it on a car.

Worst come to worst, if it is a good classic BMW...then I can sell it later.

How do you think the DOT and EPA would feel about an Alpina 5 series? Do you think it would go unoticed?

..i'm from former soviet union so i know ish about this!
..the thing is if they check it on the annually basis, just before you are going for them to check it - use drill with reverse option and connect it to odometer (the ones who counts km's) and do a reverse 'drill'

Peace!

Oh MY GOD!!! That is too funny. I know you werent joking.....but the fact that US Federal Government EPA practices mimick the old USSR is tooooooo funny!

Trust me....everyone at the EPA wishes the USA was a collectivist or socialist form of government.............and their tactics are just as ruthless.

The idea is that the car comes in as a "museum piece" and is here for show purposes ONLY. The 2,500 miles are for driving it to and from shows, and to and from maintenance.

There are plenty of non-complying cars driving around in the USA......every Euro bumper E21 is non-complying......Every Alpina....every Hartge...ect.

I have no idea how they check..........and there are plenty of people who drive cars in from Canada and Mexico and just leave them here perpetually...........again, non-complying.

Anyone in Canada want to host my car for a while?

Vehicles 21 Years Old or Older

Thank you for your inquiry. If the vehicle is at least 21 years old, there are no EPA compliance requirements upon importation. The age of the vehicle is determined by subtracting the calendar year of manufacture from the calendar year of importation. If the calendar year of manufacture is unavailable, the importer may substitute the model year or year of first registration. For instance, to qualify in 2001, the vehicle must have been manufactured in 1980 or earlier. The vehicle must be in its original unmodified configuration. Vehicles at least 21 years old with replacement engines are not eligible for this exemption unless they contain equivalent or newer EPA certified engines.

No approval or Customs bond is required by EPA. The importer must also prove to Customs, as required, that the vehicle or engine was manufactured prior to EPA regulation. Documents such as a title or letter from the original manufacturer may be used for this purpose. The importer must file with Customs, upon entry, an EPA Form 3520-1 and declare code "E" on that form. The EPA form and other importation information can be found at www.epa.gov/otaq/imports.

You will also need to contact the Department Of Transportation at 202-366-5291 or www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ for the HS-7 form and DOT import regulations.
