Now for a serious response.... is your firewall insulation intact? IS the outside air vent flapper closed and sealed? Have you removed any wire bundles or AC hoses from the firewall and not sealed the passthru?

The 323 engine and exhaust sit much closer to the cabin area of the 323 and toss a lot of heat.

Firewall insulation is there but cracked

Outside Air vent-how do I access that?

There was never A’c in the car.

The interior of mine is black, my friends is beige(but the heat difference is too significantly extreme to be only this)
Her car is the same color as mine, metallic black’grey

Thanks for all the help guys!

One mroe thing.. heat shielding under the car (from exhaust pipe - or pipeS for you). Mine was rattling like crazy so the mechanic ripped it all out befor it decided to fall out while driving. Then one day, I noticed it was exceptionally hot in the cabin and reached down to feel the 17mm bolt holding the seat down and nearly burned myself. Would it be this hot w/o the heat shielding? That I don't know for sure... but I doubt it would be.

Also, mythbusters ( you know, the experts or everything ) did a thing on exterior car color (white vs black) to account for up to 10 degree difference. Unfortunately, no testing was done for interior color (which would apply to you).

The flap is in the air plenum below the blower on the inside of the car.

Checking your exhaust heatshields is a good idea too.

Another thing to consider is that the clamp holding the bowden cable to the heater valve may be gone and you're not really turning down the heat. Or the valve could just be stuck open.

I own 2 320i's, an '82 and a '78... both leak hot water by the cut off valve and heat the interior. The '78s valve is stuck and the '82s valve just leaks by for no apparent reason. The only way to stop it is to remove the valve and plug the fittings on the engine. I use the heater on the '78 as an auxiliary radiator when I'm stuck in traffic on hot days. I'd rather overheat my body than overheat my engine! Blown head gaskets are not fun.

Get someone else to drive while you do some checking - run your hands over the floors and firewall looking for "hot spots", check for warm/hot air coming out of vents, etc. Once you determine where the heat is radiating in from, you should be able to take steps to minimize it through repairs and insulation.

One good source for insulating materials is the street rod aftermarket - guys with big engines in 30's and 40's bodies that were never designed to stay cool inside fight this problem all the time - especially when they're trying to get efficent a/c in cars that were never designed for it.....

My Baur firewall was done with fatmat with an additional layer of aluminized silica weave heat material near the header. It helped somewhat but doesn't solve the problem.
