I've taken it pretty easy on the thing, wanting to get the bugs worked out and all. While there are still some handling issues due to the front end being a bit mushy, it nontheless is an impressive car to drive and surprised me as to how stinking quick the thing is.

While the motor has great torque from 2k, it really comes on the pipe at about 3750 and pulls quite well up to about 6, where it abruptly falls on its face. Winter engine work,5sp. transplant and a diff. change will take care of this issue

While not as refined or stupidly fast as the turbo 5er, it outshines the 5er in the the fun-to-drive category hands down. I now realize what all of you 323 guys have been crowing about for so long. I am convinced it can hold its own in some pretty serious company.

You bet it can, when you consider the bhp/kg ratio compared to a modern car.
I often leave the Gti guys for dead, especially on the motorway
