Not sure if I asked before (getting old...) but i m thinking of conveting my 320m20 to run on CNG (or some natural gas).
Anyone done this or knows of how to do this?
Any info most appreciated.

It's not very difficult. You replace the carb with one for CNG, mount the tank, run the new fuel hose and that's about it. Your's is already carbed so it should be fairly easy to find one to bolt on, you may need to fabricate an adapter plate.
Do a google search for CNG conversions, it's common in the U.S. on off road vehicles because the fuel delivery is not affected by the angle of the vehicle. Some of these rock crawlers run completely vertical and even on their sides.

Most of the information I have found so far is that CNG converstions are mainly (only??) for Desiel Engines (CI engines).
Last year BMW introduced a 7er which runs on petrol (gas) and H2.
Any more infromation most welcome. |

These guys sell propane conversion carbs, they MAY work with CNG or they may know who can help.

Just remembering from the cars that have been trialled on CNG down here in Australia, from memory on average they lost about 30% of their power from the conversion (much bigger losses than an LPG conversion). In contrast the diesels they converted actually made more power on CNG... hence the focus on CNG conversions for diesels.
Most of the cars converted down here were giant V8's - 5.7 L and above!
I do like the idea of a 'green' cheap to run e21 though! Good Luck |
