Hey Guys,

Every once in a while I post in here that I would want to sell my car. Never really listed it or anything. Well I want to list it properly, however it is totally an enthusiast car and I am a horrible salesman.

There are lots of amazing things about my car that are totally unique, and there are also lots of things that need attention or repair.

Any advice on how and where to list it? What type of info to put in the ad, how much info to put in the ad, how much to ask, etc...

Ask any questions here, I'm not even sure how much to ask for the car anymore so maybe if you guys knew the car better you could give me an idea what I could get for it.

1978 e21 (was a beige or blue 320i initially)
dinan rebuilt in 1980 with M30 turbo, non-intercooled.
full dinan suspension
323i front brakes
some 7 series rear discs
hardy and beck 3 piece 16" wheels
custom dinan fender flares
ferrari red paint (from 1980s buffs well but faded)
recaro seats with matching rear interior
fittipaldi steering wheel (looking aged)
5 speed tranny, geared low
LSD
alpina aluminum cover for LSD
front and rear dinan sway bars (can measure)
rear dinan strut brace
front brace was damaged and removed
splitsecond MAF conversion
wideband o2 sensor (lambdaboy)
dinan adjustable camber front control arm bolts
battery in trunk with nice polished aluminum mounts and optima battery

all in all it is an amazing car that needs a little TLC and freshening up. I'm ready to sell it because I have a 40 mile one-way commute and a honda insight. If I sell this car I can justify keeping my e46 M3 as a 2nd car... If I keep this car I don't have time to maintain it and can't find an affordable mechanic that i trust...

So help me find a home for her by helping me understand the market.

Best,
Jesse

Sell it cheap and to ME!!

OK, so that's not a good plan for you. The only place you will find an enthusiast that MIGHT spend reasonable $$ for it is on the forums. I can't estimate the price, it's worth what every someone will pay for it and that varys greatly-but you knew that already. Pick a price and shop it around the various forums and see what happens.

If a member of BMWCCA, you can post it up for free (I think 2 per year). It will show up in the Roundel magazine, too.

Might also try the Roadfly classifieds, but I'd tend to agree that the BMW CCA classifieds will probably get you the broadest exposure with reasonably knowledgable enthusiasts.

Pricing an extensively modified car like this one is difficult at best. It's sort of like selling a street rod - to get a decent price will pretty much require finding someone that wants the specific combination you have and is willing to take on any issues that require resolution.......

Ken: how much is cheap anyway you are in california and would have a hard time smogging it

Madhatter: yes dinan and i posted pics a few posts back in this forum

Melloh: i am a bmwcca member, and i think it is a good idea to post it there. I guess i'm just looking for more general feedback like what types of things to list and how to word it. Also what sorts of things should definitely be 100% restored/working/stable in order to have the car sell.

for instance i wouldn't try to sell it with a cold starting problem, even if it was expensive to fix, etc...

thanks for the responses guys !

Don't sweat it Nick, the A4 is a great car. I may end up in something similar myself if it ever snows in Tahoe again
