I am in the process of disassembling a 2.3 long block I plan to rebuild.

I was wondering which parts need to be marked for reassembly in the original corresponding cylinder/location.

i.e crankshaft caps, pistons, connecting rods, rockers, valves etc.

Thanks.....

Hi Bob,
what's this 2.3 engine for? I thought you'll get a 2.8+ motronic engine for your 323i?

My 2.9 liter is finally built and about to go into the 323i.

That leaves me with a complete 2.3 liter motor sitting in my garage I need to do something with. The motor really needs to be rebuilt as I couldn't sell it in good faith as a "good" motor as it is.

I have a friend that can clean the parts for me I just wanted to make sure that the parts that need to be marked were before I disassembled it.

I don't personally plan on rebuilding it myself but rather have a complete motor broken down and clean to sell to someone with the skills to reassemble it.

You might want save the time and effort that goes into disassembly and consider leaving it together and cleaning it up externally so it's easier to handle. Many folks who do their own mechanical work prefer to do their own disassembly so they can look for wear patterns, etc; in addition, it's awfully easy for small parts to go missing when an engine's in pieces.......
