OK, changed the fanblades and found that the clutch was broken at the bearing. Had to change that too, but had to take the radiator out.

When it was all back together and with fluids in it, it ran hot on me. Really hot! It was only for a couple of minutes, but it did get close to the red mark.

Is there a danger of burning out seals or something else? What should I look for in the way of precautions.

I was so happy that the engine felt so smooth now that it had rotational balance with all the fan blades.........that I didnt look down to see the guages.

Also, what could have cuased this? Air bubble in the cooling system? It has coolant.

I would guess you had an air bubble. The worst that can happen is a warped head/blown head gasket. If it was only there for a short time you are probably ok.

The engine was running smooth. How would I know if I have either?

Would a warped head disrupt the timing?

For some reason, when my engines overheated (I mean really overheated) I had a very high idle. (1500-2000rpm instead of the usual 800).

Not sure if it's a direct cause of overheating, but I've seen it happen twice (and had to throw out two heads )

Problem solved. I had a blocked vent hose .........probably from moving the radiator around.

The car is running smoother now that it has all the fan blades.........but i am still worried because it got past the 3/4 mark and close to the red.

It was for less than 10 to 15 minutes as I drove away and then back......but would still would like to know what to keep my eye on.

No idle problems. Idle is smooth now that there is rotational balance with all the fan blades.

Dunno what rig you're running but I find the stock cooling system to be insufficient in Tennessee in the summer with my 2.7 stroker. My boss had similar problems with his 2.5i engined e21. Adding the oil cooler filter adapter from an E30 and an oil cooler from a Volvo turbo car fixed it.

Yeah.... a lot of E21s have that problem. Mine is running at just past the 1/3 mark all the time. This was a mishap of messing with an old radiator. the small relief hose comming out of the tank got clogged up with radiator gunk.

On the other hand, my AC cant keep up with Florida summer heat. I need to figure something out.

personal theory ive been pondering on. But do you remember the discussion we had on spark plugs, on how some would make your car run too cold,,,,? Platinums do the same thing i believe....

On my car i have the early open thermostat and a pusher fan. I worry the car runs too cold.

I did all this because the dist was bad and was making the car run too hot, the cooling system was fine.

My stroker always runs at 2/3 in hot Atlanta temps. I have not gotten around to adding the oil cooler. I also plan on upgrading to the 528e rad.
