i read somewhere that the fuel distributor's from porsche, vw &/or audi were interchangeable w/bmw's can anyone tell me which one is compatible w/an m10 |

This was for the 6 cyl from what I understand. Do a search on the forums. The question is answered once or twice.
The Porsche has greater flow for six cylinder models. That may not be the truth for 4 cylinder VWs.

You don't need to swap out fuel distributors unless you're going to turbo. The stock fuel system will flow all the fuel any NA m10 can make.
If you have a 1.8L, one of your problems is going to be the air flow meter, however. I would suggest swapping that to the 2.0L e21 AFM. This thread may also help you in that regard:
