Very nice car!

Did you swap the instruments? I was under the impression that the six cylinders always had the digital clock and a green zone in the tachometer...

Unless it was changed before i owned the car, thats the original.

The digital clock is there you just cant see it as the car is turned off .. but no green zone

the digital clocks in the 6 cylinders came in 1979 with the facelift. my 78 320/6 still has the mechanical clock.
by the way, only the modells with rev-meter got the digital clock, otherwise there was the big clock instead of the rev-meter..

also the green stripes on the rev-meter came with the facelift in 1979.

Well, still, since this car is from 1982 it should have the green stripe

My car is a July 1982 model with no economy green stripe. The 1981 model doesn't have it either and I used to have a 1980 323i which I've canibalised for bits and that never had it either. I don't know why. I haven't come across many "Green spriper" tachometers!

Marquis, like you my 79 323i does not have a green stripe tach. Its the "Older style dash 78-79" thats in German and has the center non-digital clock.

However I do have a 81 or 82 323i euro instrument cluster and it has KM in the speedo and a green stripe tach. It has a digital clock.

HMMM, something is going on here.
I thought the later model dashes that did not have the old clocks mounted in the center did have the digital clocks and green stripes.

Maybe there is more to it than that, but thats
what my understanding is. Digital clock = green stripe tachometer.

thanks

Hi there

I've looked at heaps of Oz spec e21's both early and late, and have never seen one fitted with the green stripe tacho- maybe these were only fitted to lhd models ( presume Marquises car is also a RHD like ours?)

Cheers

Mine is '82 323i model but no green stripe at all but there is a digital clock. I'm very extremely sure mine hasn't been replaced or changed whatsoever previously.

post some pics of your car Oldmanwillie! You have a very rare car in your 323i motorsport... I think from memory only 50 were built for the OZ market to promote BMWs touring car racing in the early 80's! Unfortunately, they don't have any engine mods though... but all the motorsport options of the time.
