I just say the doughnut vid you have... loooovely. It totally reminded me of when i found out my cacr was rear wheel drive (i knew INCREDIBLY little of driving, less of driving stick, and even less abt my car). I had only driven stick for a few months, less than a year. Friand and I decided to go to an 'abandoned" gravel parking lot, ended up doing doughnuts. Stanfor police came along, and as they were debating what to do about us, I could hear them consistenly referring to me as "Doughnut Boy". Needless to say, we neve returned and I never doughnuted again. we got off w/ a "friendly warning" and yes, i think we got it on camcorder.

PS: What other fun, yet regretable, things have we all done? My worst is a "speed contest" ticket that tripled my insurance (from 800/yr to 2300). Stupid stupid stupid immature thing for me to do; also never to be repeated. But, at least I beat my friend in his 97 Audi A4 2.8 quattro (burned his clutch).

I can't think of anything. I can't help to be a very cautious driver, in fact I hate driving in traffic or on highways.

When there's nobody on the road at 9pm in the countryside, I can enjoy myself and the car, because I know the limits of the car. But in the city, you have to watch out for stupid drivers that might get in your way and cause accidents.

I once had a little bump with the Audi though, but that was the very first week since I had ever driven a car in my life. It was enough to learn my lesson though, given all the insurance mess it gives. Insurance of the Audi went from $550 to $650 because of it, and my dad wasn't too happy

A friend of mine completely folded his Saab 9000 at 3am on a lonely road on the countryside, on his own, taking down and totalled a parked in the process. That's just too stupid to happen to anyone.

A little common sense can never hurt, I always say

I don't know if it's "stupid", but the last auto-x I went to (I promised I wouldn't go again without new suspension) I was given the "go" signal. I took off, first stretch was a rather large slalom (maybe 60 feet between cones). As I topped out first gear I hard shifted into second as I was rounding one of the cones. The rears lost traction and I went sideways. I slid for 100 feet (maybe more). Right towards two people working the track (picking up downed cones, calling out course deviations etc.). They ran because of how dangerous the car looked. If you've looked at the promotional video on the "fun stuff" page you know about the body roll. Imagine doing it at 55mph sideways. My girlfriend and her dad (also a racer). Stood up from their seats and were awaiting me to flip the car. It didn't happen but my girlfriend said that she won't ride with me again.

Other than that there is a tall mountain about 5 minutes from my girlfriends parents house. Me and Jake (the e30 M3 on my site) have gone bombing up there once and while at 1am. It's not neccesarily dangerous the way that we do it. But one going too fast could be deadly.

cheers,
Doughnutboy II (he he)

P.S. I dig the "original thread" down on the reply screen. I used to hate opening up two browser windows to reply on roadfly. good work Tri!!!!

e21's can be a little dangerous at an auto-x without any suspension work done. But with a nice suspension setup and more power than stock they can be fairly competitive.

Regarding all safety notes.. AGREED! I know I UST go to some driving schools to really understand driving and maximize my abilities. I'm quite certain my car is still much faster than I am (that makes sense, yeah?). I admit I DO love the mountain twisties, esp my ones back home in La Honda (Northern California... somewhat famous for the 2-wheelers). The worst I've done is lock up my front brakes (braking a bit too late, too hard) causing straightline understear... and that was scary enough (I knew I had shoulder to work with, but after the shoulder was a cliff). So anyway, who has done the BMW driving course? My mother went after getting her 330xi and loved it, enough to buy me a trip there for graduation.

Going down skyline past four corners (no speed limit, twisty mountain road) with my buddy in the car. He has a 3000gt VR4 modded and we were going to an airsoft game. I decided I would giv e him a fun ride there, stupid me! All is going well untill we get to this hairpin that looks like all the other 20mp hairpins, except it only starts that way. About half way, it turns in so sharp that I would like to compare it to pulling into a parking space in a lot. I was going 20 for a max 9-12mph turn. Oh but luckly there is a rock wall in my lane and a cliff in the opposite. I am by now in the complete wrong lane on a two lane two way blind turn. Just as we come out of the corner a huge suburban is right in front of me! Panic quick right to get into my lane. I look over at my friend and he is WHITE and gripping the door handle for DEAR LIFE. AHAHAHAHAH!!!!
I lean over and say "hey, I had it all under control, besides, wouldn't flying off a cliff in a car be a really cool way to die! WHAM, socked my ass in the face while driving LOL. It's ok, I killed him 6 times in airsoft that day....hehehe

Unfortunately Matt, I don't know it quite as well as you. I am not familiar w/ all the names... only the couple of paths I take (can't even recall the hwy number). My 2 best friends and I (1 has '97 audi quattro 2.8, other first had integra 4-door special edition, then 98 accord coupe, and new owner of 03 integra - a die-hard honda guy who works for GReddy) like to roll up there, starting from woodside road up to the beach (we used to go up and make bonfires and fire off bottle-rockets and such). We get aggressive, but nothing insane like you!!!! The worst of us up there is when the a4 was running a bit harder/crazier than usual and well... my other friend who was behind him came around a corner to see him dead still, turned 180 and perfectly centered in the opposite lane. His reaction to this site was "wow, that musta been a damn nice U-turn... but wait, y would he u-turn???" And I don't need to tell you what was going on in my A4 friend's head, do I? I wish I were there to have been a part of that driving history.

A few weeks later, the honda friend was running that route again and found an NSX sitting on top of a tree (w/ his m3 friend parked, obverving at that same turn! Them decreasing radius turns can b scary biznatches up in the mountains..............

So do you take woodside up to four corners and go straight towards LA honda and go throught there or do you take a right a four corners and go until skyline turns into that road that goes to Half Moon bay? Man, there are awesome parties out on those smaller beaches! We go down ther elike every other weekend! A bunch of friends and I all play airsoft down in santa cruz. So with all this and my friends in La Honda, I spend a LOT of time hauling ass throught twisties!

coming from woodside (going west), I prefer straight (west, hits right a few mi from pescadero) or left (south). Going north (along 280, ending up @ 280 and 90) i dont like as much because its a higher-speed course than the others and at those speeds, I feel like if I hit a little rock on the road during a turn, i'd roll... nay.. FLY right off the road. I prefer the sharper 15-30 mph posted turns, more suited for our light cars (yes/no?). I havent been up in a looong time, so dont know which roads have been repaired, if any. The jones gulch route would be great if repaired. But u know, i can't even remember how to get there anymore!

H

PS: airsoft? wouldn't happen to b the same as paintballing, would it? I love paintballing. The open woods of woodstalk used to be my favorite, but it is no longer there.
