Hi All,
Just changed my brake booster/servo with one from an e28.
Modification required:
1. Mounting bracket on servo needs to be shortened. From about 2.5
inches to about 1.25 inches.
2. Knocking of the tyre-well to accommodate the larger servo.
3. Re-use original e21 brake master pump. (e28 master pump has two
outlets only, vs 3 with the e21 brake master pump)
4. Shorten the joint with the brake levers (i.e., connection between
servo and the brake levers (just behind the headlights.
Braking is now much more progressive. Shorter stopping distance and
feels less likely to lock up Don't have to press the brake pedal as
hard as I had to previously.
Next step, my Volvo 4-pot calipers.
Has anyone done this before?
Photos will follow later.

If you were upgrading to the Girling calipers you should have waited and used the e12 master cylinder.
You may be asking for trouble by using a two circuit master cylinder instead of the a stock three circuit. Not sure on the car you removed it from but most e28s were fitted with an ABS pump along with this two circuit master cylinder. |

I am using the three circuit master pump from the e21. Fits the e28 booster. The booster was from a 1982 525i. It did not have ABS.
The e28 is now using a booster from an e32. |

despite what people say, I still like the idea of having a Hydra-boost system off of like the 535i's |

it has its advantages. Just a bitch to remove "the bomb" when it goes. |

I havent actually seen alot of them that have gone bad. Usually when one goes, its because the wrong fluid was in the system, or someome over filled it because they didnt know you have to pump it up until the level stops rising with the car off |

My e32 has hydraulic leak between servo and master pump. The later e32 is fitted with vacuum type which can be retrofitted.

Closeup of bracket - cut from about 2.5 inches to about 1 inch
Tyre well from inside engine bay. Darker colour indicates extent of reshaping.
